H.P. Lovecraft

H.P. Lovecraft (1890–1937) was an influential American author, regarded as the father of modern 'Cosmic Horror.' In his stories, he portrayed human insignificance and a profound dread of the unknown universe, where humans fall prey to colossal and indifferent alien deities (such as Cthulhu) rather than any supreme or benevolent being. This fictional universe created by Lovecraft is known as the 'Cthulhu Mythos,' which has since inspired countless writers and creators ranging from Stephen King to Guillermo del Toro. Despite gaining little fame during his lifetime, works such as 'The Call of Cthulhu' and 'At the Mountains of Madness' are now considered classics of world literature.
