Ralph Fitch's Journey to Bengal, India, and BurmaYear of Composition: 1583 AD(The first description of Bengal written by an Englishman)
Vasco da Gama discovered the sea route to India; he was Portuguese. Meanwhile, Columbus discovered the route from Europe to America; he was Spanish.
Both of these powerful European forces were Roman Catholic Christian states. Spain and Portugal devised a grand plan to turn the entire world into their colonies. Dividing the world between them, Spain took the responsibility of colonizing the western half of the globe, while the Portuguese took the remaining half.
According to this grand plan, Bangladesh, India, and Burma fell within the Portuguese region. For the Baptist Christian English, these regions were forbidden. Nevertheless, risking their lives, four English merchants set out to trade in India.
Queen Elizabeth I funded this expedition. She also provided two letters addressed to Emperor Akbar and the Ming Emperor of China. However, only Ralph Fitch returned alive from this daring adventure. Upon his return, the British East India Company was established under his guardianship.
What descriptions did Ralph Fitch bring back that led to the establishment of the world's most powerful private company?
